My mom brought up an interesting topic:
she thinks it’d be easier to be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 16, rather than 6 (relative age range), but I disagree.
So tumblrbetics, what do you think- would it be “easier” (not the best word to use I know, but you get what I mean?) to be diagnosed earlier in your childhood or later into your teen years? I’m interested in what other diabetics think, whether it’s based off their experiences or otherwise.
As for me: I was diagnosed when I was 6 years old, and don’t remember much before that… So I’ve had diabetes for most my life. Sure, my childhood wasn’t as fun- strict dieting, shots and needles everywhere, no candy whenever I wanted, no sugary cereal, etc… But I learned many important lessons, became much more health-conscious, learned not to take things for granted, etc.
There are certainly many pluses and minuses for both situations. Thought/opinions?
